Taking care of your health and checking your coverage go hand in hand. Annual Enrollment Period is now open, and a quick check-in now means you can review your 2027 coverage with confidence.
October is a good month for a health check-in. Before the holidays and colder weather arrive, take a few minutes to think about the appointments, screenings, and prescriptions you’ve been meaning to get to.
Medicare covers a range of preventive services, including wellness visits, flu shots, diabetes screenings, colorectal cancer screenings, and certain cancer screenings. What you qualify for, and how often, depends on the service and your circumstances, so it’s worth asking your doctor what’s due.
A few things to put on your fall checklist:
Check whether you’re due for a cancer or other preventive screening.
Review your medications and ask whether anything needs to be changed.
If you haven’t had your yearly wellness visit, consider putting it on the calendar.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Medicare covers a yearly screening mammogram for women 40 and older, though follow-up imaging may have different costs.
One more thing: Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) is now open. If your health needs changed this year, like a new prescription or a specialist you’re now seeing regularly, it’s worth checking whether your current coverage still fits.
If you’re enrolled in a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan, your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) should have arrived by September 30. It explains what’s changing for 2027, including costs, coverage, and provider or pharmacy networks. Give it a read and book an appointment if anything looks different or you’re not sure what it means.
